We planted seeds today and placed them in the germination chamber. The germination chamber is a thing that gives the seeds heat and moisture at all times, and so we don't have to go out every hour and water them. The garbage bags serve as the same purpose.
Planting the seeds was so much fun. We worked hard to make the rows and to get the seeds in the rows. The germination chamber is full. The germination chamber works a lot faster than the trash bags. By using the germination chamber it gave us at least four days of growing time. A germination chamber and the garbage bags will both give the plants water and heat all the time so that we don't have to water them all the time. Can't wait to see how they all turn out.
Planting tomatoes was kinda hard, the seeds were fairly small and it was hard not to over populate the seeds. The bags were suppose to help the soil get warm and to retain the moisture in the soil. The germination chamber does the same thing but it does a lot better because it keeps itself at a constant temperature. Planting the petunias was the the best because I think it was the easiest.
Over the past couple of days we have been planting seeds for germination. First we fill up a germination tray about 3/4 full of germination mix. Then we fill the bag of seeds with two spoonfuls of sand. The sand spreads the seeds out so the seeds are easier to spread on the tray. After you spread the seeds on the germination tray you water them lightly down so your seeds are touching the soil. After that we mark the trays with a tag so we can tell them apart, and then put them in the germination chamber. Another method for germinating seeds that we tried was putting the trays in a garbage bag filled with air, and let them sit for a couple days. This method also germinated the seeds but no as well as the germination chamber.
I think on a personal level it was fun to plant the seeds and was a great experience for me because even though my mother is a plant freak i never really planted seeds that small and even thought it was challenging it was a great time and fun. On another note i would like to note that we are still waiting on the bagged plants and the germination chambered plants worked in 4 days.
This week we planted seeds!!! This process is super fun! To do this we: 1. Fill up the tray almost full of soil. 2. Open the seed bag and put sand in with the seeds to make it easier to mix. 3. You spread the seeds out over the tray nice and evenly. 4. Water down the seeds very lightly so that they are cuddling with the soil. 5. Then you make pretty little tags to go in the tray with the seeds so you know what seeds they are. 6. Then you put it in the germination chamber!!!!
Another way that you can do this is by putting the tray into a garbage bag, with enough air for it to still breath. This way is not as fast and doesn't work quite as efficiently as the germination chamber does, but it is better then nothing.
We planted the seeds we had to make rows first and only put in a few seeds in it. Then we had to pack them down and water them. Then we made a tag so we knew what they were and then we put them in the germination chamber.
